This lovely newborn cap is perfect for beginner crocheters. It utilizes a large crochet hook to obtain the “lacey” look and only one kind of stitch, the half double crochet. The leg warmers are also beginner friendly but will likely introduce a new stitch to your crochet tool box, the front post double crochet.

Finish the hat by weaving in the ends using a yarn needle. Add a button to the brim of the hat for the final touch.
Pom Pom: Hold the end of your yarn in your hand and make a fist around it. Wrap the yarn around your fist at least 50 times at the same tension. The more times you wrap your yarn, the thicker your pom will be. Once you have reached the desired texture, cut the end and carefully remove the yarn from your fist. Wrap the ends around the yarn in the middle and tie very tightly. Cut the loops of the yarn and trip to form an even ball.

Tip! Clover USA has pompom makers that are much easier (and cleaner) to use. Check out my product review if you’d like a better pompom.
