  • 5 Skeins Redheart Super Saver (3) Burgundy, (1) Bright White and (1) Guava
  • 6 mm Crochet Hook

Pattern Notes:

This tree skirt is worked in the round starting from the center and working outward. There is no slit to make wrapping it around the tree easy. You must put the stem of the tree into the hole in the center at the time of putting up your tree. The amount of yarn you will need is dependent upon how big you need to make your tree skirt. I used 5 skeins of yarn, three of which were the dominant color and two were the accent colors.

Written Instructions

Crochet tree skirt

Using Color A

Round One: Ch. 16. Join with slst into the first chain to form a ring.

Round Two: Ch. 3 (counts as dc). Dc 23 times in center if ring (24 dc). Join with a slst to third chain.

Round Three: Ch 3 (counts as dc). *Dc two times in the next stitch. Dc one time in the next stitch. Repeat from * around. Join with a slst to third chain. (36 dc).

Round Four: Ch 3 (counts as dc). Dc in the first stitch. Dc two times in the next stitch. *Dc once into the next two stitches and dc twice in the third. Repeat from * around (48 dc).

Round Five: Ch 1 (does not count as stitch). Sc  into the same slst. Skip 2 stitches, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) into the next stitch. *Skip 1 stitch, sc into the next. Skip 1 Stitch, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) into next stitch. Repeat from * around. Slst into first sc to join the round and Slst into the next two stitches and slst in chain space to set placement for next round.

Round Six: Ch 3 (counts as dc).  (1 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) into chain gap space. Dc once into the next stitch. Skip 2 stitches, *1 dc, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) into gap space, 1 dc. Repeat from * around. Join with a slst to third ch, then slst to the next stitch.

Round Seven: Ch 3 (counts as dc). Dc once into next stitch (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) into chain space. Dc once into the next 2 stitches. Skip 2 stitches, *1 dc into the next two stitches, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) into chain space, 1 dc next two stitches. Repeat from * around. Join with a slst to third ch, then slst into the next stitch.

Round Eight: Ch 1, dc into the next two stitches (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) into chain space. Dc once into the next 3 stitches. Skip 2 stitches, *1 dc into the next three stitches, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) into gap space, 1 dc in next three stitches. Repeat from * all the way around. Join with a slst then slst to the next stitch.

Fasten off Color A. Continue working in pattern. For Subsequent rounds, follow this color pattern: 2 rounds Color C, 2 rounds Color B, 8 rounds Color A. Every round from here on out is essentially the same, you are just increasing by 24 stitches each round (two extra stitches per point). Follow this pattern until your tree skirt is as large as you need it. Your tree skirt should be as big as your tree is round at the bottom.
