About this Pattern

If you’re looking for a crochet flower that’s unlike anything you’ve tried before, you’re in the right place. Bullion stitches are so unique and they make a beautiful flower.

With this project you’ll learn how to crochet bullion stitches the easy way; with a latch hook. If you don’t have a latch hook or can’t buy one, you can use a crochet hook instead. Just wrap the loops around the hook the same as with the latch hook. Just know it’s a tad difficult to finish the stitch.

Before you begin, review this page entirely so you understand the full scope of the project before you begin. To help you succeed, we prepared a list of recommended supplies and abbreviations as well as a video tutorial and written instructions.

Use finished size to measure gauge.

Bullion Stitches are finicky, but well worth the extra effort. We find that if you “walk your hook” through each of the wraps one by one, it’s much easier to manage. Also pulling up on the working loop before the chain that finishes the bullion stitch will shift the wraps enough to make them more uniform.

We also found that the best way to fasten off is with the invisible join. Check out our video here to see how it’s done.

Expect that the first few flowers you make will be practice runs. Your bullion stitches will get better with every one. If you’re struggling with your regular hook, it’s possible to make bullion stitches with a latch hook. This method is quite a bit easier, and they usually look better! Just remove your crochet hook after finishing the first round, and use the latch hook for the entirety of the second round.

We recommend using a magic ring to start this project. If you’re unfamiliar with this technique, check out our guide here.
