introduction

About this Pattern

If you’re looking for a fun way to shake up your crochet routine, you’re in the right place. Crochet mittens are a wonderful project to learn how to make and this one incorporates a little colorwork too.

With this project you’ll learn one method of how crochet mittens come together – with a separate, flat band and transitioning to rounds. You’ll learn how to create a thumb piece and add little pops of color along the way. We love the recommended yarn for this project because it has wonderful texture, but you can substitute with another bulky weight yarn in your stash.

Before you begin, review this page entirely so you understand the full scope of the project. We have a list of recommended supplies and abbreviations here on this page as well as written instructions and a tutorial to walk you through our fair isle crochet mittens from start to finish.

FAQ: Can I use a different yarn?
Sure, as long as it’s in the same weight category. Check your gauge and adjust as needed so the sizing comes out right. The recommended yarn amount will likely be different too.
