How to crochet, the easy way
The Beginner Crochet Series is the best way to learn how to crochet. Brittany has adapted her teaching style to accommodate how her audience, adults, learn best. Each video has a specific topic with a similar framework to optimize your learning experience. Because the Beginner Crochet Series is offered for free through YouTube, you will be in control of the pace at which you learn and Brittany will be there guiding you every step of the way.

To finish each of the projects for this series, you will need to purchase a few supplies. One of the great things about crochet is that it’s an inexpensive hobby so you can expect to spend less than $30 or so. These items do not all have to be purchased at once. In order to save on the initial cost, you can buy the yarn as you start each new project!

Lesson 9 of the series talks about finishing techniques, an important lesson indeed if you want your projects to be as professional as possible. Wet blocking is covered in the second part of that lesson. To wet block your wash cloths you may need to purchase some athletic flooring tiles, sewing pins and a spray bottle. These items are not required right away and can be purchased or skipped at your leisure.
Once you have purchased your supplies you are ready to begin watching the series and learning how to crochet! The Beginner Crochet Series is a 20-video series. Let’s take a quick look at the overview of each video. By clicking on the video links, you will be directed to each video.
Beginner Crochet Series
Get familiar with your host, Brittany, and the structure of the Beginner Crochet Series with the introduction.
Learning how to crochet means learning about the tools us crocheters use, hooks and yarn.
We begin with the basic techniques of holding the hook and holding the yarn. Then we’ll learn how to create a slip knot and how to crochet a foundation chain.
We begin our first project in video #4, the wash cloth set. Lesson 2 covers the fundamentals of the single crochet.
Continuing our first project, lesson 3 covers the fundamentals of the half double crochet.
Lesson 3 covers the fundamentals of the double crochet. In this lesson we make the 3rd of our four wash cloths.
In lesson 5 we will make a practice swatch of the treble crochet. We’ll talk about it’s uses and applications.
In lesson 6 we will make a practice swatch of the slip stitch. We’ll talk about its uses and applications.
In this lesson we will expand on our new knowledge of crochet stitches by learning how to increase and decrease in a row.
In lesson 8 we will expand on our knowledge by learning how to change colors. We will be working on our 4th and final wash cloth.
This lesson is all about finishing techniques. We will finish our wash cloths with a single crochet edging and talking about blocking and washing.
Now that we’ve mastered working a flat piece, in lesson 10 we will begin to learn how to crochet in the round.
In this lesson we will begin our second project, the newborn beanie and follow it through to completion.
In lesson 12 we will begin to talk about more intermediate level crochet concepts, texture, tension and gauge.
Lesson 13 is all about patterns. We’ll begin learning abbreviations and “lingo” often found in crochet patterns.
In lesson 14 we expand on our knowledge of reading patterns by learning how to read crochet diagrams.
Lesson 15 is all about crochet motifs. We will take a look at some of the most popular motifs and their uses.

In this lesson we will begin our third project, the newborn security blanket and follow it through to completion.

Apply all of the concepts we’ve learned thus far with the final crochet project, the crochet hook case.
