Pattern Notes:

I highly recommend using the same brand of yarn throughout your stocking. A friend of mine learned this the hard way! This pattern utilizes three colors however, you may mix and match as many colors as you like. One skein of each color was enough for me to make two stockings and still have a little bit left over.

Stocking is worked from band to toe.

Color key:

  • Color A – burgundy
  • Color B – white
  • Color C –  guava

Written Instructions

Band – Color B

Ch. 46. Join with a slst to the first chain. Ch. 1. Sc in each chain. Do not join with a slst, continue working in a spiral. Make one sc in every stitch until your band measures 7.5″ in length. The side facing you while you sc is the right side or the side that you want facing outward after you fold the band down.

Fasten off and turn your band inside out. Fold it in half to help you see where to join your new color so that the right side of your Dc stitches are on the outside of the stocking.

Leg

Rounds 1-4 {Color A} Join color A at the back side of the stocking. Ch. 3. Dc in each stitch around. Join with slst to the third chain from your ch 3 at the beginning of the round. Bind off color A.

Round 19-20 {Color A} Join color A at the back side of the stocking. Ch. 3. Dc in each stitch around. Join with slst. Bind off color A.

Heel – Color B

Lay your stocking flat with the join seams in the back. You will need to guesstimate where to join the heel. Find the stitch that is at the leftmost corner. Count 10 stitches towards the back of the stocking and mark with a stitch marker.

Row 1: Join color B at the stitch marker. Ch 1 and sc into the same stitch (as the stitch marker). Sc in the next 19 stitches.

Row 2: Ch. 1. Sc2tg. Sc across the row and Sc2tg in the last two stitches.

Rows 3-8: Repeat Row 2 until you have only 4 stitches remaining.

Rows 9-13: Sc 2 into the first stitch. Sc across row and sc 2 into the last stitch. You should end up with 20 stitches across your final row. Bind off leaving a tail that is approximately 6″ long.

Heel Assembly: To assemble the heel, fold the top half of the hour glass down toward the outside of the stocking. Using the tail and a yarn needle, whip stitch up the seam to close the opening. Repeat down the other side. Fold the heel right-side out.

Foot

Round 1 {Color A} Join color A at the back of the stocking. Ch 1. Sc until you reach the corner where the heel meets the leg. Sc2tg the last stitch on the leg to the first stitch on the heel. Sc across heel. Sc2tg the last stitch of heel and first stitch on the other side of the leg just as you did on the other side. Sc around the leg and join with a slst.

Round 2 {Color A} Ch. 3. Dc until you reach the corner where the heel meets the leg. Dc2tg the last stitch on the leg to the first stitch on the heel. Dc across heel. Dc2tg the last stitch of heel and first stitch on the other side of the leg just as you did on the other side. Dc around the leg and join with a slst.

Round 3 {Color C} Ch. 3. Dc in each stitch around. Join with a slst. Bind off color C.

Round 4 {Color B} Ch. 3. Dc in each stitch around. Join with a slst. Bind off color B.

Rounds 5-8 {Color A} Ch. 3. Dc in each stitch around. Join with a slst. Bind off Color A.

Round 9 {Color C} Ch. 3. Dc in each stitch around. Join with a slst. Bind off color C.

Toe –  Color B

Join Color B and work continuously in spiral. Ch. 1, Sc in the next 4 stitches. Sc2tg the next two stitches. *Sc in the next 5 stitches and sc2tg the next two stitches. Repeat from * in spiral for a total of 8 rounds. Bind off leaving a tail approximately 6″ in length.

Turn the stocking inside out. To close up the toe, essentially we will be creating a drawstring closure with the tail. Weave the tail in and out each stitch using a yarn needle. Once you have went all the way around, pull the tail and the toe should draw up and close. Add in a few whip stitches and knot off the tail to secure the closure.
