Finished Size | 9″ tall when seated

Make this little cutie for someone special this year. Customize the color of his scarf, ears and feet to fit your occasion.

Introduction

About this Pattern

If you’re looking for a fun little project to occupy your hands and mind, you’re in the right place. Our little crochet bear we call “Ben” is a fun project you can make for your self or as a gift. Customize the color of his scarf, ears and feet to match your occasion or mood.

With this pattern you’ll get to practice your amigurumi skills sculpting detailed shapes. Add the legs with a single long strand of yarn so Ben will sit or stand (with a little help of course). We use felt for accents in the eyes, ears and feet and you’ll even learn how to add eyelids to your amigurumi projects for a more realistic look.

Before you begin, review this page entirely so you understand the full scope of the project. We have a list of recommended supplies and abbreviations here on this page as well as written instructions and a tutorial (three of them actually!) to walk you through our little crochet teddy bear step-by-step.

Assembly/Finishing

Step 1: Fill the bottom of the body and each limb with weighted craft beads. (The extra weight helps the bear to sit up properly and to allow the legs to move from the standing and seated position easier).

Step 2: Stuff body, head and limbs.

Step 3: Sew each arm to the body at opening of body hole.

Step 4: Sew tops of legs closed.

Step 5: Add a button to each leg at the top.

Step 6: Lay bear flat and place each leg in its desired position (with buttons facing outward). From one side to the other, using a large yarn needle and 16” piece of yarn, run it through one leg, through the body and out the other side. And finally, run needle through other leg, behind button. Run the needle back through in the opposite direction. Tighten and tie a knot to hold the legs firmly in place. Weave in remaining end.

Step 7: Sew nose to the head using the photographs for reference.

Step 8: Sew the ears in place.

Step 9: Sew the head to the body. Weave in remaining ends.

Step 10: With a scrap piece of yarn and needle, feed the scrap from the back to front, through the head and out next to the eye. Run the yarn back through in the opposite direction. Pull to draw in the eye and tie a knot. Weave in your ends and repeat for the other eye.
