If you’re looking for a baby blanket that’s easy to learn and fun to crochet, look no further than the Basket Weave Crochet Baby Blanket. It’s the first baby blanket I ever crocheted and it can be yours too!

The basket weave crochet baby blanket will give you great practice with post stitches which are used to create the basket weave texture. Once you get into a rhythm, the pattern is a breeze to memorize so you can concentrate less and enjoy the process more.

Blanket

Row 1:  Ch 160. Dc in 4th ch from hk and in each rem ch.

Row 2: Ch 2. *Fpdc next 4 sts. Bpdc next 4 sts. Rep from * to last 5 sts. Fpdc next 4 sts. Hdc last st (top turning ch). Turn.

Row 3: Ch 2. *Bpdc next 4 sts. Fpdc next 4 sts. Rep from * to last 5 sts. Bpdc next 4 sts. Hdc last st (top turning ch). Turn.

Rows 4-5: Ch 2. *Fpdc next 4 sts. Bpdc next 4 sts. Rep from * to last 5 sts. Fpdc next 4 sts. Hdc last st (top turning ch). Turn.

Row 6: Ch 2. *Bpdc next 4 sts. Fpdc next 4 sts. Rep from * to last 5 sts. Bpdc next 4 sts. Hdc last st (top turning ch). Turn.

Row 7: Ch 2. *Fpdc next 4 sts. Bpdc next 4 sts. Rep from * to last 5 sts. Fpdc next 4 sts. Hdc last st (top turning ch). Turn.

Rows 8-9: Ch 2. *Bpdc next 4 sts. Fpdc next 4 sts. Rep from * to last 5 sts. Bpdc next 4 sts. Hdc last st (top turning ch). Turn.

Repeat rows 2-9 until your blanket measures about 31″ ending on an 4th or 8th row. Fasten off and weave in your ends.

Border & Finishing

Round 1: Fasten on color A at top right corner of blanket. Evenly space 162 sc across top edge. When you reach the top left corner (sc, ch 2, sc). Working down the left edge, evenly space 252 sc. In bottom left corner (sc, ch 2, sc). Working across bottom edge, evenly space 162 sc. In bottom right corner (sc, ch 2, sc). Working up right edge, evenly space 252 sc. In top left corner (sc, ch 2, sc). Join with a slst to first sc.  Fasten off Color A. (836 sc)

Round 2: Join color B at top right corner in ch-2 sp. Ch 1 (does not count as st). Sc once in ch-2 space. [Make 1 sc every st to ch-2 space. (Sc, ch 2, sc) in ch-2 space] twice. Make 1 sc every st to ch-2 space (top right corner). Sc ch-2 space. Ch 2. Join with a slst to first sc.

Fasten off and weave in your ends.
