About this Pattern


If you’re looking for a beginner Tunisian crochet project that’s a little more interesting your basic wash cloth, you’re in the right place. Our two-tone Tunisian crochet cowl combines the introductory Tunisian crochet stitch with super bulky yarn for a quick and simple weekend project.

With this project you’ll get to practice your Tunisian simple stitch skills and take it a step further with the addition of a second color. Although it’s worked in a flat piece, this super cowl gets its shape from stitching the two ends together.

  • Approx 200 yds; Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick & QuickButterscotch
  • Color A – Butterscotch; 100 yds
  • Color B – Oatmeal; 100 yds
  • 8 mm Tunisian Crochet Hook
  • Yarn Needle
  • Scissors

Written Instructions


Foundation Row: With color A, ch 31.
Fwd: *Insert hk in 2nd ch from hk. YO and pull up a loop. Rep from * to the last ch
Rtn: YO and pull through one loop. *YO and pull through 2 loops. Rep from * until only one loop remains on the hook.

Row 1: Fwd: *Tss. Rep from * to end of row. Insert hk in last st. YO and pull up a loop. 
Rtn: YO and pull through one loop. *YO and pull through 2 loops. Rep from * until only one loop remains on the hook.

Repeat: Rep the last row until work measures 16″ from the starting edge. Break color A and join color B in the last st.

Continue: Rep row 1 with new color until work measures 32″ from the starting edge. Fasten off leaving a 20″ tail.

Bind off: *Tss and pull new loop through prev loop. Rep from * to last st. Insert hk in last st, YO and pull up a loop. Pull new loop through prev loop. Fasten off leaving a 12″ tail.

Assembly

Step 1: Wet block cowl to correct any curling or uneven edges by pinning it down, saturating it with water and allowing it to dry completely before moving on to the next step.

Step 2: Lay cowl flat with right side facing up. Fold bottom edge to top edge so the wrong side is showing. Seam the two ends together using a yarn needle.

Step 3: Weave in your ends.
