Pattern Notes

Finally a crochet hat for the men in our lives!

This pattern is worked as a flat piece and sewn together to finish the hat shape. You will need to understand how to make a drawstring closure to shape the top of the hat.

You may use any method to stitch up the side. I prefer using a darning needle and weaving in and out of the stitches for a less obvious seam.

You may change the measurements of this hat quite easily. The length of the foundation chain will be equal to the height of the hat (minus a half inch for the closure). You can make a slouchy style hat by increasing the length of your foundation chain. There is no need to work in a specific multiple. Work with however many stitches you need to get the length you want.

The height of the flat piece, that is how many rows you make, will be equal to the circumference. You can make the hat smaller by making fewer rows and larger by making more.

Assembly

Fold your piece in half, from top to bottom. Using your working loop, you may slst the two ends together or you may choose to fasten off and use the tail to sew up the hat. When you fasten off, leave yourself a tail that is approximately 10″ long to finish the drawstring closure.

Using your darning needle, weave the long tail in and out of every other row along the edge of your work. When you have reached the other end, pull the tail and draw up the closure. Loop the tail back and forth, in and out securing the closure. Once secure, Fasten off on the inside of the hat and weave in your ends.
