Pattern Notes

This crochet slouchy hat is perfect for gift giving! It works up lightning fast with a 10 mm crochet hook and bulky weight yarn.

You will work this pattern beginning with the band and continue upwards. The band is crocheted in rows which is later stitched together to form a round. From here, the remainder of the hat is crocheted in rounds. What a great learning opportunity if you haven’t already worked a hat this way before!

Just now starting this hat. Can’t wait to see how it turns out. Not sure if it’s supposed to be understood or if I missed it, but I didn’t see where the instructions say to crochet in the back loops only for the band. I clicked on the video to be sure that’s how you did it, but you might want to edit the written instructions 🙂

  • I love this hat so much but I think I’m having a problem. I bought the exact yarn and when I used a size 10 hook the band was over 28 inches. I went down to a size 9 and needed to reduce the band to 36 rows, so I end up with 6 shells instead of 8. Hoping that the end result is still good.

    • That’s a classic example of gauge differences from person to person – it’s nothing you did! It seems to me like you worked it out perfectly. Having 6 shells rather than 8 shouldn’t be an issue at all. I’m here to help if you need it as you progress!

I love the design and the choice of colors.
I think there are some missing instructions in round 3 – the formation of the first half shell and finishing the second half at the end of the round are not explained.
    Thanks.
