Pattern Notes

Our mini stockings crochet pattern comes together starting with the band at the top, and working downward. While we have one size available currently, you can easily make your mini stocking a little bigger or a little smaller by using a different yarn weight. Just be sure to pick a crochet hook size that works with that yarn weight.

Additionally, you should know that the chain one at the beginning of the band rounds doesn’t count as a stitch. While the chain three at the beginning of the other rounds does count as a double crochet stitch.

Gauge: 8 sts x 6 rows = 2″ worked Hdc in the round (measuring the leg stitches)

Not sure what gauge is? Check out our comprehensive guide to learn all about it here.

Finished Size:

About 5.5″ from top to bottom of the toe (might vary based on how much you fold the band); and about 2.75″ wide at the leg section of the mini stocking.

Mini Stockings Crochet Pattern

Band

Round 1: With color B, ch 20. Join with a slst to the first ch to form a ring. Ch 1 and make a hdc in every chain. Don’t join at the end of the round. Continue working in a spiral.

Rounds 2-6: Make one hdc in every st. On the 8th round, after the last hdc stitch, make a slst in the next stitch to correct the jog. Fasten off color B.

Flip the band so the right side is inward. That way when you fold the band down, the front side of the stitches will be showing.

Left: Band before you fasten off. Right: Fasten off and flip the band inside out.

Mini Crochet Stockings Leg

Join color A in any of your foundation chain stitches at the bottom of the band (I like to do so in the stitch right next to my slip knot).

Rounds 1-8: Ch 1. Hdc in each st. Don’t join. Cont working in a spiral. Don’t fasten off at the end of the 8th round.

Mini Crochet Stockings Heel

Slst in the next stitch while breaking color A and joining color B.

Row 1: Sc next 10 sts. Ch 1 and turn. (10 sts)

Row 2: Sc2tog. Sc in the next 6 stitches. Sc2tog. Ch 1 and turn. (8 sts)

Row 3: Sc2tog. Sc in the next 4 stitches. Sc2tog. Ch 1 and turn. (6 sts)

Row 4: Sc2tog. Sc in the next 2 stitches. Sc2tog. Ch 1 and turn. (4 sts)

Row 5: Sc2tog twice. Ch 1 and turn. (2 sts)

Row 6: Make 2 sc in each st. Ch 1 and turn. (4 sts)

Row 7: Make 2 sc in the first st. Sc in the next 2 sts. 2 sc in the last st. Ch 1 and turn. (6 sts)

Row 8: Make 2 sc in the first st. Sc in the next 4 sts. 2 sc in the last st. Ch 1 and turn. (8 sts)

Row 9: Make 2 sc in the first st. Sc in the next 6 sts. 2 sc in the last st. Ch 1 and turn. (10 sts)

Rows 1-9 created a flat “hourglass” shaped piece. Fold the top half of the hourglass shape downward, toward the outside of the stocking (wrong side out).

Fasten off leaving a tail that is approximately 6″ long. Use the tail to sew up the two edges. Turn the heel right side out and lay flat for the next part of the stocking.

Mini Crochet Stockings Foot

Lay your stocking flat with the heel side facing up. Join color A at the back of the stocking in one of the middle stitches of the heel.

Round 1: Ch 1. Hdc in the same st. Hdc in rem heel sts to the last. Hdc2tog over the last stitch of the heel and the first stitch of the leg. Hdc in next 8 sts. Hdc2tog over the last stitch of the leg and the first stitch of the heel. Hdc in each of the rem heel sts. Don’t join with a slst. Cont to the next round. (18 sts)

Round 2: Hdc in the next 4 sts. Hdc2tog. Hdc in the next 7 sts. Hdc2tog. Hdc in the last 3 sts. (16 sts)

Rounds 3-4: Hdc in every st. (16 sts)

In the last st of round 4, break color A and join color B.

Mini Crochet Stockings Toe

Round 1: Hdc first 2 sts. Hdc2tog. *Hdc in the next 2 sts. Hdc2tog. Rep from * to end of round. Don’t join. Cont working in a spiral. (12 sts)

Round 2: Hdc first st. Hdc2tog. *Hdc in the next st. Hdc2tog. Rep from * to end of round. (8 sts)

Round 3: *Hdc2tog. Rep from * to end of round. (4 sts)

Slst in next st and fasten off leaving a 6″ tail. Use the tail to sew the toe opening closed.
