Gauge and Sizing

3 sts x 3 rows = 2″ worked in single crochet

This pattern is written for adult small size but includes information on how to modify the pattern to fit you perfectly.

Abbreviations

  • BLO – Back Loop Only
  • Ch – Chain
  • Rep – Repeat
  • Sc – Single Crochet
  • Slst – Slip Stitch
  • Ws – Woven Stitch **see stitch description
  • YO – Yarn Over

Stitch Description:

Ws – YO, insert hook in designated stitch, YO and pull up a loop. Pull that loop through the second loop on your hook. YO and insert hook into same stitch. YO and pull up a loop. Pull that loop through both loops on your hook.

Written Instructions

Body

Round 1: Ch 56. Join with a slst to the first chain. Ch 1 (does not count as stitch). Make one sc in every chain. Do not join, continue working in spiral.

[alert-announce]To modify the size: make a foundation chain to fit comfortably around your waist, just above the pockets on your pants – must be an even number.[/alert-announce]

Round 2: Make one sc in the BLO of every stitch.

Rep round 2 until your vest measures approximately 14″.

[alert-announce]To modify the sizing: measure from the pocket of your pants to the middle of the bust. This is the length you should repeat round 2 to. [/alert-announce]

When you’ve reached the proper length, slst in the next stitch.

Bust

Row 1: Ch 2. Ws in the next stitch. *Skip one stitch, ws in next. Rep until you have 14 woven stitches.

[alert-announce]To modify: Divide the number of foundation chains you started with by 4. That’s how many woven stitches you should have in the front and back section.[/alert-announce]

Row 2: Ch 2. Ws in the next stitch. *Skip one stitch, ws in next. Rep until you reach the end of the row.

Rep row 2 until your bust section measures approx 6.5″ long.

[alert-announce]To modify: Measure from the middle of your bust to the point at which your collar bones come together. This is the length your bust section should measure.[/alert-announce]

Fasten off leaving an 8″ tail.

Back

Row 1: Fasten on at the stitch right next to your bust section. Ch 2. Ws in the next stitch. *Skip one stitch, ws in next. Rep until you have 14 woven stitches.

[alert-announce]To modify: Divide the number of foundation chains you started with by 4. That’s how many woven stitches you should have in the front and back section.[/alert-announce]

Row 2: Ch 2. Ws in the next stitch. *Skip one stitch, ws in next. Rep until you reach the end of the row.

Rep row 2 until your bust section measures approx 6.5″ long. Be sure the length is the same as the bust section. Fasten off leaving an 8″ tail.

Shoulder Seams

Using the 8″ tails, sew the shoulder seams (from outside in) approximately 4″ from the edges.

[alert-announce]To modify: measure the length of your shoulder. This length is how long you should make your shoulder seam.[/alert-announce]

Neck

Round 1: Fasten on in the back of the vest, roughly in the middle, so that the right side of the stitch is inside the vest. Ch 1 (does not count as stitch) Sc in same stitch. Make one sc in every stitch. Do not join, continue working in spiral.

Round 2: Make one sc in the BLO of every stitch until your neck piece measures approx 4″ long.

Fasten off and weave in your ends. Fold neck downward.
