The crochet moss stitch produces a thinner fabric than other stitches making it perfect for when you need a great drape. Plus it’s reversible! It’s also known as the granite stitch, and the linen stitch.

Suggested Supplies

Pair the crochet moss stitch with just about any yarn in your stash from lightweight to super bulky. Choose a smooth yarn for stitch definition that’ll allow the pattern to really be the focus, or pair it with a slightly textured yarn for a little more visual interest and texture.

Supplies used in demonstration video:

  • Lion Brand Heartland Yarn
  • 5 mm Crochet Hook
  • Yarn Needle
  • Scissors

Abbreviations & Special Stitches

This pattern is written using standard US crochet terminology.

  • Ch Chain
  • Hk Hook
  • Rem Remaining
  • Rep Repeat
  • Sc Single Crochet
  • Sk Skip
  • Sp Space
  • St(s) Stitch(es)

Additional Notes: Chain one at beginning of row does not count as a stitch. We have updated the written pattern slightly since filming the tutorial so if you notice a difference between the two, that’s why. This updated version makes a cleaner looking starting row, but you can use whichever version you prefer the look of!
