introduction

About this Pattern

If you’re looking for your first knitting project, you’re in the right place. Wash cloths are incredibly easy to knit and they work up much faster than other projects. This means you’ll have the much needed “finished project gratification” much sooner than with other projects and you’ll be more likely to keep knitting!

With this project you’ll learn the basics of knitting; the long tail cast on, garter stitch and a basic knitting bind off. These three components make up many projects you’ll encounter as you keep knitting. Pair this project with your favorite cotton yarn and make a few until you’re comfortable with all three techniques.

Before you begin, review this page entirely so you understand the full scope of the project. We have a list of recommended supplies and abbreviations here on this page as well as written instructions and a tutorial to walk you through our beginner knit wash cloth step-by-step.

getting started

Recommended Supplies

  • Approx 54 yds each; Lily’s Sugar ‘n Cream Cotton
  • US 8 Knitting Needles
  • Yarn Needle

FAQ: Can I use a different yarn?
Sure, as long as it’s in the same weight category. Check your gauge and adjust as needed so the sizing comes out right. The recommended yarn amount will likely be different too.
