Gather Your Supplies

  • 1 skein Bernat Maker Home Decor, Cream
  • 1 skein Bernat Maker Home Decor, Clay
  • US 11 Circular Knitting Needle, 24″ (or size needed to obtain gauge)
  • 16″ pillow form
  • Darning Needle
  • Scissors

  • K – knit
  • CO – Cast On

Gauge and Sizing

6.5 sts x 12 rows = 2″

Your finished pillow cover will measure approximately 16″ by 13″ once assembled.

Pattern Notes

This pattern is worked in three separate pieces and sewn together to allow for the removal of the knit pillow cover for washing. Please see diagrams below for instructions on how to sew the three pieces together to allow for this.

Yarn substitution is possible, however, please note that differences in sizing may occur as a result of this. Bernat Maker Home Decor and Bernat Maker Fashion are optimal for the pattern as it is written.

  • Color A – Cream

Written Instructions

Knit Pillow Front

CO 50 stitches with color A.

Rows 1-30: Knit all stitches.

After 30 rows, verify that your work measures 5″ from top to bottom. Do not cast off, drop color A and add color B.

Rows 31-32: With color B, knit all stitches. Drop color B.

Rows 33-34: With color A, knit all stitches. Drop color A.

Rep rows 31-34 a total of 16 more times. This will create 18 stripes total. Verify that your work measures 11″ from top to bottom. Break color A.

Rows 67-90: With color B, knit all stitches. Cast off on wrong side. Weave in your ends

Knit Pillow Back – Bottom Piece

CO 50 stitches with color B.

Rows 1-30: Knit all stitches.

After 30 rows, verify that your work measures 5″ from top to bottom. Do not cast off, drop color B and add color A.

Rows 31-32: With color B, knit all stitches. Drop color B.

Rows 33-34: With color A, knit all stitches. Drop color A.

Rep rows 31-34 a total of 16 more times. This will create 13 stripes total. Verify that your work measures 9″ from top to bottom. Cast off.

Knit Pillow Back – Top Piece

CO 50 stitches with color A.

Rows 1-30: Knit all stitches.

After 30 rows, verify that your work measures 5″ from top to bottom. Do not cast off, drop color A and add color B.

Rows 31-32: With color B, knit all stitches. Drop color B.

Rows 33-34: With color A, knit all stitches. Drop color A.

Rep rows 31-34 a total of 16 more times. This will create 13 stripes total. Verify that your work measures 9″ from top to bottom. Cast off.

Assembly

You will need to sew your pillow together using a darning needle and the color which matches each segment. Following the assembly diagram below will allow all four edges to be secure but leave an opening so the pillow can be removed for washing.
