Is this the craft lamp for you?
I’ll admit, I never really put much thought into the lights I use until I discovered this little crafting gem – subjecting my poor eyes to whatever lighting conditions the room threw their way. After all, crocheting is pretty much muscle memory, right?
Well, yes it is but that doesn’t mean our eyes aren’t still at work. As someone with a biology background I should know better.
When OttLite approached me to try out a lamp in their new Wellness Series, I was excited at the opportunity to share one of these gorgeous products with you but honestly, I had no idea just how much of a difference this lamp would make in my own crafting ventures.
Two words – Eye Strain.
As a contact wearer, the tell tale signs of eye strain are masked by the fact that I keep little discs in my eyes at all times (except to sleep) to be able to see. That’s pretty harsh when you think about it.
Over the last decade I have experimented with countless contact lenses – dailies, weeklies, monthlies and all the other “-lies” known to man. It’s tough to find the right one. You’re right, this isn’t a post about contact lenses.
In preparation for this review, I read into science behind the Wellness Series. What I found was that this fashionable little lamp could not only bring my desk into a new phase of “hip” but it also had the potential to alleviate some of the burning and redness I have blamed on my contact lenses for years.
So About this Revive
This isn’t the only OttLite lamp I own. I also have the Ultimate 3-in-1 Craft Lamp and love it. I wondered though, what to expect when this one came through the mail. So I captured that unboxing moment and shared my initial thoughts with you as well as elaborated on some of the key points I find this lamp to be great for crocheters and knitters. You can have a look here:
I was particularly interested in this lamp’s ability to perform in the absence of good day light as well as hanging with my trusted studio lighting. As you saw in the review, the Revive held it’s own against my studio LED lights. So how did it stand up to the best light source – daylight?
A picture is worth a thousand words.
This photo was taken using only the light coming through my window in the late afternoon hours.
This photo was taken using only the light from my OttLite Revive on the brightest setting.
The difference is pretty minimal, right? If you’re one to snap a photo of your project at night because you just can’t wait to post it until the sun comes up again, this might be the light source you need to keep your Instagram feed as beautiful as it is creative – no matter when you find the time to work.
You can see subtle differences in the shadows but most of that can be adjusted with filters or editing software. Neither of these photos were edited by the way.
If you’re wondering about the intriguing stitch pattern in these photos, you can check out the tutorial I have for you here:
Now the big decision, is it right for you?
I’d say the OttLite Revive is a great solution to three (potential) pain points – eye strain/fatigue, lack of “daylight” and functional style. I happen to be the person in need of all three and I didn’t even know it until I had one of my own.
I’m not here to tell you that you need this lamp but I am here to help you decide if it is right for you. Please, feel free to ask me any questions in the comment section below to aid in your decision-making process. A $100 decision is something I don’t take lightly and I wouldn’t expect you to either. I promise nothing but a truthful response!
When you’re ready to get your own or if you’d like to do some more research, I recommend checking out OttLite’s website first. They have a load of information and studies to back up the claims of the Wellness Series. You can find all that info here:
