introduction

About this Pattern

If you’re looking for a crochet scarf that’s super easy to make, you’re in the right place. The Minimalist Crochet Scarf will show you a slightly different approach to crocheting a scarf.

This project will help you practice keeping your edges straight (a problem lots of new crocheters run into) with the center piece. Then conceal any mistakes you made along the way with the addition of sides crocheted in the opposite direction.

Before you begin, review this page entirely so you understand the full scope of the project. We’ve prepared a list of recommended supplies and abbreviations you’ll need to get started as well as a video tutorial demonstrating how to crochet the Minimalist Crochet Scarf and, of course, written instructions to walk you through it from start to finish.

Recommended Supplies

  • Approx 450 yds; Patons Alpaca Blend Yarn; (Colorway pictured: Smoke)
  • 9 mm Crochet Hook
  • Yarn Needle
  • Scissors

FAQ: Can I use a different yarn?
Sure, as long as it’s in the same weight category. Check your gauge and adjust as needed so the sizing comes out right. The recommended yarn amount will likely be different too.

Additional Notes: This pattern is worked in three sections. You’ll begin with the center, crocheting a skinny strip. Then you’ll add to each side to crochet the left and right sections.

Chain one at beginning of row does not count as a stitch, which means you’ll work the first stitch of the row in the same place as the chain one.
