Gauge and Sizing

7 sts x 9 rows = 2″

Your finished knit mug cozy will measure approximately 8″ long and 3.5″ wide. This pattern is designed for an 8 oz mug.

Pattern Notes

This “bow tie” knit mug cozy uses a very simple stitch and economical yarn to create a design that looks much more complex than it actually is! The pattern is best suited for 8 oz mugs. You can, however, add some length to the first long repeat to accommodate larger mugs.

CO 12

Row 1(RS): K all sts.

Row 2: P all sts.

Rep last two rows until you can count 26 rows (“v’s”). Set yourself up to work on the right side for the next row.

Next Row: Cable 6 front (remove first 6 sts from needle, k last 6 sts then k first 6 sts).

Next Row: P all sts.

Next Row: K all sts.

Rep last two rows three times more.

Next Row: P all sts.

Last Row: Bind off in K st.

Finishing Recommendations

Wet block your cozy for the neatest results. Weave in your ends on the wrong side of the work. Add two buttons (1/2 inch to 1 inch buttons work best) to the side furthest from the cable at each corner.

Use a crochet hook to create the button holes – Insert hook in the last stitch, create a slip knot with a new piece of yarn and place that loop on your hook. Make 6 chains and fasten off by slip stitching to the stitch next to the first. Repeat at other corner and weave in your ends.
