Gather Your Supplies
For this project we’ll use Red Heart’s Colorscape yarn. I LOVE this stuff! The color speaks for itself and it’s a great replacement for the recently discontinued Red Heart Treasure. With it’s 100% acrylic fiber content, Colorscape is perfectly soft and excellent for anyone on your list this season.
To make the entire gift set, you’ll need 3 skeins of Red Heart Colorscape yarn. To make the cowl individually, refer to the supplies list below for yarn requirements.
- Approx. 125 yds Red Heart Colorscape, (Munich shown)
- 6 mm Crochet Hook
- Darning Needle

Gauge and Sizing
Gauge: 6.5 sts x 10 rows = 4″ worked in clustered stitch pattern. Rows 4 and 5 make up clustered stitch pattern.

- Hdc – Half Double Crochet
- Hk – Hook
- Rep – Repeat
- Rem – Remaining
- Sc – Single Crochet
- Sc2tog – Single Crochet Two Together

This quick and easy crochet cowl is perfect for gift giving. You’ll only need one skein of Colorscape yarn and about 4 hours to complete it. It has a close and cozy drape making it perfect for layering under a coat in cold weather.
We’ll kick off this mini-series with pattern one, the crochet gift set cowl. This simple pattern is worked in rounds and comes together really fast. You’ll get the opportunity to learn a new stitch (a clustered variety stitch) and work with this velvety soft yarn.
Clustered Stitch – YO, insert hk in designated st, YO and pull through 2 loops. YO, insert hk in same st, YO and pull through 4 loops. One CL st made.

Row 1: Ch 75. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each rem ch. Being careful that your row doesn’t twist, fold row and join with a slst to the BLO of the first sc. Using darning needle, secure bottom edge of row.
Rounds 2-3: Ch 1 (doesn’t count as st). Sc in BLO of first st. Sc in BLO of each rem st. Join with a slst to BLO of first sc.
Round 4: Ch 1 (doesn’t count as st). Hdc in same st as ch. *Ch 1, sk one st, CL in next. Rep from * to last 2 sts. CL in second to last st. Ch 1, sk last st. Join with a slst to Hdc.
Round 5: Ch 1 (doesn’t count as st). Make one sc in every CL st and every ch. Join with a slst to first sc.
Rep rounds 4 and 5 six more times.
Next 2 Rounds: Ch 1 (doesn’t count as st). Sc in BLO of first st. Sc in BLO of each rem st. Join with a slst to first sc. Fasten off.
