About this Pattern


If you’re looking for a project that’s cute and fun to crochet, you’re in the right place! Lucy the crochet sheep is a great amigurumi project for Easter, baby showers, or just because.

With this pattern, you’ll practice basic amigurumi skills and shapes with each element as well as the assembly and finishing touches that bring amigurumi projects to life.

**Invisible Single Crochet Two Together (Inv Sc2tog): Insert hook into FLO of first designated stitch, YO, and pull up a loop. Insert your hook into the FLO of the next designated stitch, YO, and pull up a loop. YO and pull through all three loops.

This little crochet sheep comes together by crocheting six different segments: head, ears, arms, legs, tail, and body. Each segment is then sewn together during the assembly.

Written Instructions


Head

(Minute Mark – 0:50, video one)

Round 1: With B, make a magic ring with 6 sc. Do not join, continue to work in a spiral. Mark the first stitch of each round with a stitch marker.

Round 2: 2 sc in each st. (12 sts)

Round 3: 1 sc in each st. (12 sts)

Round 4: 1 sc in first st. *2 sc in next st. 1 sc in next st. Rep from * to end of round. (18 sts)

Round 5: 1 sc in the first 2 sts. *2 sc in next stitch. 1 sc in the next 2 sts. Rep from * to end of round. (24 sts)

Round 6: 1 sc in the first 3 sts. *2 sc in next stitch. 1 sc in next 3 sts. Rep from * to end of round. Break color B and join color A in the last sc. Continue working in spiral (30 sts)

Round 7: 1 sc in the first 4 sts. *2 sc in the next stitch. 1 sc in the next 4 sts. Rep from * to end of round. (36 sts)

Rounds 8-9: 1 sc in each st. (36 sts)

Round 10: 1 sc in the first 5 sts. *2 sc in next stitch. 1 sc in the next 5 sts. Rep from * to end of round. (42 sts)

Rounds 11-17: 1 sc in each st. (42 sts)

Don’t fasten off. Continue to add the nose and eyes and pick up on the head pattern after.

Nose & Eyes

Thread approximately 24″ of color A on your darning needle. Stitch the nose in place by whip stitching a triangle over the first and second rounds and then fill it in with several whip stitches. (Minute Mark – 10:35, video one)

Attach the eyes, one at each corner of the nose, 6 rows up from the nose, about 6 sts apart. (Minute Mark – 10:56, video one)

Round 18: 1 sc in the first 5 sts. *Sc2tog. 1 sc in next 5 sts. Rep from * to end of round. (36 sts)

Round 19: 1 sc in the first 4 sts. *Inv sc2tog. 1 sc in the next 4 sts. Rep from * to end of round. (30 sts)

Round 20: 1 sc in the first 3 sts. *Inv sc2tog. 1 sc in next 3 sts. Rep from * to end of round. (24 sts)

Round 21: 1 sc in each st. (24 sts)

Round 22: 1 sc in the first 2 sts. *Inv sc2tog. 1 sc in the next 2 sts. Rep from * to end of round. (18 sts)

Round 23: 1 sc in the first st. * Inv sc2tog. Sc in next st. Rep from * to end of round. (12 sts)

Add stuffing to the head before proceeding.

Round 24: *Inv sc2tog. Rep from * around. (6 sts) Remove the stitch marker and slst into that st to correct the jog.

Fasten off leaving a tail that is approximately 4-5″ long. Create a drawstring closure by weaving the tail in and out of every stitch. Pull the drawstring closed and weave in the ends. (Minute mark 18:56, video one)

Ears (Make Two)

(Minute Mark – 19:46, video one)

Round 1: With A, make a magic ring with 6 sc. Do not join, continue to work in a spiral. Mark the first stitch of each round with a stitch marker.

Round 2: 2 sc in each st. (12 sts)

Rounds 3-6: 1 sc in each st. (12 sts)

Remove the stitch marker and slst into that st to correct the jog. Fasten off leaving a tail that is approximately 8″ long.

Legs (Make Two)

(Minute Mark – 0:48, video two)

Round 1: With B, Make a magic ring with 6 sc. Do not join, continue to work in a spiral. Mark the first stitch of each round with a stitch marker.

Round 2: 2 sc in each st. (12 sts)

Round 3: 1 sc in first st. *2 sc in next st. 1 sc in next st. Rep from * to end of round. (18 sts)

Round 4: 1 sc in the first 2 sts. *2 sc in next st. 1 sc in next 2 sts. Rep from * to end of round. (24 sts)

Round 5: 1 sc in the first 3 sts. *2 sc in next st. 1 sc next 3 sts. Rep from * to end of round. Break color B and join color A at the last sc. Continue working in a spiral. (30 sts)

Rounds 6-10: 1 sc in each st. (30 sts)

Round 11: 1 sc in the first 3 sts. *Sc2tog. 1 sc in next 3 sts. Rep from * to end of round. (24 sts)

Round 12: 1 sc in the first 2 sts. *Sc2tog. 1 Sc in next 2 sts. Rep from * to end of round. (18 sts)

Rounds 13-30: 1 sc in each st. (18 sts)

Fasten off leaving an 8″ tail. Stuff the legs.

Arms (Make 2)

Round 1: Make a magic ring with 6 sc. Do not join, continue to work in a spiral. Mark the first stitch of each round with a stitch marker.

Round 2: 2 sc in each st. (12 sts)

Round 3: 1 sc in first st. *2 sc in next st. 1 sc in next st. Rep from * to end of round. Break color B and join color A at the last sc. Continue working in a spiral. (18 sts)

Rounds 4-8: 1 sc in each st. (18 sts)

Round 9: 1 sc in the first st. *Sc2tog. 1 Sc in next st. Rep from * to end of round. (12 sts)

Rounds 10-23: 1 sc in each st. (12 sts)

Fasten off leaving a tail that is approximately 8-10″ in length. Stuff the arms.

Tail

(Minute Mark – 14:15, video two)

Round 1: With A, make a magic ring with 6 sc. Do not join, continue to work in a spiral. Mark the first stitch of each round with a stitch marker.

Round 2: 2 sc in each stitch. (12 sts)

Repeat: Rep round 2 until your tail measures approximately 1.5″ long. Remove the stitch marker and slst into the marked stitch to correct the jog.

Body

(Minute Mark – 00:49, video three)

Round 1: With A, make a magic ring with 6 sc. Do not join, continue to work in a spiral. Mark the first stitch of each round with a stitch marker.

Round 2: 2 sc in each st. (12 sts)

Round 3: 1 sc in first st. *2 sc in next st. 1 sc in next st. Rep from * to end of round. (18 sts)

Round 4: 1 sc in the first 2 sts. *2 sc in next st. 1 sc in the next 2 sts. Rep from * to end of round. (24 sts)

Round 5: 1 sc in the first 3 sts. *2 sc in next st. 1 sc in next 3 sts. Rep from * to end of round. (30 sts)

Round 6: 1 sc in the first 4 sts. *2 sc in the next st. 1 sc in next 4 sts. Rep from * to end of round. (36 sts)

Round 7: 1 sc in the first 5 sts. *2 sc in next st. 1 sc in next 5 sts. Rep from * to end of round. (42 sts)

Rounds 8-19: 1 sc in each stitch. (42 sts)

Round 20: 1 sc in the first 5 sts. *Sc2tog. 1 Sc into the next 5 sts. Rep from * to end of round. (36 sts)

Round 21: 1 sc in each st. (36 sts)

Round 22: 1 sc in the first 4 sts. * Sc2tog. 1 sc in the next 4 sts. Rep from * to end of round. (30 sts)

Round 23: 1 sc in each st. (30 sts)

Round 24: 1 sc in the first 3 sts. *Inv sc2tog. 1 sc in next 3 sts. Rep from * to end of round. (24 sts)

Rounds 25-26: 1 sc in each st. (24 sts)

Round 27: 1 sc in the first 2 sts. *Inv sc2tog. 1 sc in the next 2 sts. Rep from * to end of round. (18 sts)

Rounds 28-29: 1 sc in each st. Remove the stitch marker and slst into that stitch to correct jog. (18 sts)

Fasten off leaving a tail that is approximately 15″ in length. Add the crafting beads to the bottom of the body and fill with stuffing.

Assembly

(Minute Mark – 9:04, video three)

Step 1: Sew the arms to the body opening on opposite ends using the arm tails and whip stitches. (Minute mark 09:05, video three)

Step 2: Sew up each end of the legs using the leg tails and whip stitches. (Minute mark 10:40, video three)

Step 3: Using a 16″ cut of color A yarn, attach the button to the top center of the leg. Leave the long tail to attach to the body. (Minute mark 11:10, video three)

Step 4: Using the long tail from where you sewed your button in place and your darning needle, situate your needle directly down from the center of the arm, 6 rows from the bottom. Run the needle through the body to the other side, poking it through it roughly in the same place (directly below the arm, 6 rows up). Grab the second leg and run that tail through the leg (under the button). Run it back through the other side. Repeat once more to secure the legs in place and weave in your ends. Step 5: Flatten the ear and curl it slightly. Using the ear tail, sew it to the head 5 rows up from the eye and out 3 stitches. Repeat for the other ear. (Minute mark 14:39, video three)

Step 6: Sew the head in place using the body tail and whip stitches. (Minute mark 15:39, video 3)

Step 7: Sew the tail in place using whip stitches. (Minute mark 16:15, video three)
