About this Pattern
If you’re looking for a quick project to make this Fourth of July or Memorial Day weekend, you’re in the right place. Our Red, White and Blue Crochet Pillow works up fast with just about any medium weight yarn you already have.
With this project you’ll get to practice the corner to corner crochet technique, a must know for any crocheter. Crochet two identical squares, add a border, assemble and this project is done!

FAQ: Can I use a different yarn?
Sure, as long as it’s in the same weight category. Check your gauge and adjust as needed so the sizing comes out right. The recommended yarn amount will likely be different too.

You may carry the yarn between color transitions to reduce the number of ends to weave in. Alternatively, you can fasten off at the end of each color transition and attach the new color when indicated.

Row 1: With A, Ch 6. Dc in 4th ch from the hook and in next 2 ch. Turn. (one tile)
Row 2: Ch 6. Dc in 4th ch from hook and in next 2 ch. (slst, ch 3, 3 dc) in ch-3 space of previous row. (two tiles)
Row 3: Ch 6. Dc in 4th ch from hook and in next 2 ch. [(slst, ch 3, 3 Dc) in ch-3 sp of previous row] twice. Turn. (three tiles)
Row 4: Ch 6. Dc in 4th ch from hook and in next 2 ch. [(slst, ch 3, 3 dc) in ch-3 space of previous row] three times. Turn. (four tiles)
Continue in this manner, increasing one tile every row until there are 18 tiles across. Change to color B in last Dc of row. Turn.
Now work in decreasing rows as follows:
Row 19: With color B, slst across first 3 Dc. *(slst, ch 3, 3 Dc) in next ch-3 space of previous row. Rep from * to last ch-3 space. Slst in last ch-3 space. Turn. (17 tiles)
Row 20: Slst across first 3 Dc. *(slst, ch 3, 3 Dc) in next ch-3 space of previous row. Rep from * to last ch-3 space. Slst in last ch-3 space. Turn. (16 tiles)
Row 21: Slst across first 3 Dc. *(slst, ch 3, 3 Dc) in next ch-3 space of previous row. Rep from * to last ch-3 space. Slst in last ch-3 space. Turn. Change to color C in last Dc of row. Turn. (15 tiles)
Continue in this manner, decreasing one tile every row until one tile remains. Work stripe pattern as follows:
- [3 rows C, 3 rows B] twice
- [2 rows C] once
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Border
Round 1: With color A, fasten on in any corner stitch and Sc in same space (first st of round). *[Ch 3. Sc in space between blocks] 16 times to corner. Ch 3 and Sc in next corner st. Rep from * 3 times. Ch 3 and join with a slst to first Sc.
Round 2: Slst in fist ch-3 space from round 1. Ch 3 (counts as Dc). Make 2 Dc in same ch-3 space. *[3 Dc next ch-3 space] 16 times. 3 Dc in corner Sc st. Rep from * 3 times. 3 Dc last ch-3 space. Join with a slst to 3rd ch.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Assembly
With color A and a darning needle, sew three edges of the two pillow panels together using the second round border stitches.
Insert the pillow form and sew the fourth side.
