About this Pattern

If you’re looking for a crochet hat pattern that’s versatile, easy to crochet, and has a neater-looking band, you’re in the right place. The Basic Bottom-Up Crochet Hat here at B.Hooked is great for donating, gifting, and of course, just because.

With this project, you’ll learn the fundamentals of crocheting a hat starting at the band and working up to the crown. You’ll learn how to crochet a long, flat piece using a stitch pattern that looks more like classic ribbing and how to start working in rounds. Lastly, you’ll get to practice some basic decreases to make the crown.

Before you begin, review this page entirely so you understand the full scope of the project. We prepared a list of recommended supplies and abbreviations you’ll need to get started, a video tutorial demonstrating how to crochet it step-by-step, and written instructions to complete this hat from start to finish.
