The crochet larksfoot stitch is a great way to play with color in your project. It’s great for alternating colors every row, but it looks great with wide stripes too.

This pattern is written using standard US crochet terminology.

** Long Double Crochet (LDc):

YO and insert hook in designated space, one row below (be sure to pull up so the height matches your last double crochet). YO and pull through two loops. YO and pull through the remaining two loops.

Additional Notes: Ch 3 at beginning of rows counts as a double crochet stitch. Ch 4 at beginning of rows counts as a double crochet and ch 1. To achieve the same color look, crochet rows 2 in one color before switching to the next.

Row 1: Ch any number of sts divisible by 4 and add 1 at the end. 1 dc in 4th ch from the hk. 1 dc in next ch. Ch 1, sk 1 ch. *1 dc in next 3 ch. Ch 1, sk 1 ch. Rep from * to last 3 ch. 1 dc in last 3 ch. Turn.

Row 2: Ch 3. 1 dc in next 2 sts. Ch 1, sk next ch-1 sp. *1 dc in next 3 sts. Ch 1, sk next ch-1 sp. Rep from * to last 3 sts. 1 dc in last 3 sts. Turn.

For the color pattern shown : change colors in last dc of this row.

Row 3: Ch 4. Sk 1 st. 1 dc in the next. LDc in ch-1 sp 1 row below. 1 dc in next st. *Ch 1, sk 1 st. 1 dc in next st. LDc in ch-1 sp 1 row below. 1 dc in next st. Rep from * to last 2 sts. Ch 1, sk 1 st. 1 dc in last st. Turn.

Row 4: Ch 4. Sk 1 st. 1 dc in next 3 sts. *Ch 1, sk 1 st. 1 dc in next 3 sts. Rep from * to last 2 sts. Ch 1, sk 1 st. 1 dc in last st.

Repeat: Rep rows 2-5 until your project measures the length you want, ending after finishing a 2nd row to match the starting edge.
